Lophorina Superba:
The Superb Bird of Paradise is a
small beautiful bird, its
scientific name is Lophorina superba and approximately 26cm long.
It is the only member in the genus Lophorina.
The males are black bird of
paradise with a shining green crown, blue and green breast
shield and a long velvety black erectile cape covering his back. The females are
reddish brown bird with brownish barred
buff below. The young male is also
looks same like female. Superb Bird of Paradise found
in the rainforests of New Guinea.

Behaviour:
The Superb bird
of paradise has remarkably low population of females, and competition amongst
males for mating is extravagantly violent. This has led the species to have one
of the most strange and delightful procession displays in the avian world.

the male first attracts a female with a
loud call. After the peculiar female approaches, his folded black feather coat
and blue green breast shield springs upward and spreads extensively and
symmetrically around its head, immediately converting the front view of the
bird into a spectacular ellipse appearance creature that rhythmically flicks its tail quills
against the ground while jumping in furious circles around the female. While
this show continue, the blue quills in a shape similar to a cartoon face. In spite
of the delightful demonstration, the average females refuse 15 to 20 powerful claimants
before accepting to mate.
