The Magnificent Bird of paradise is a small bird of paradise with ultimately beautiful plumage. The
adult male is approximately up to 26 cm in length. They belongs to the
Paradisaeidae family. Cicinnurus
is a Greek word, which means
curled lock of hair, refering to specialised feathers on head, magnificus is a Latin word which
means magnificent,

The adult male has apparently
glamorous
yellow wings, a green opalescent breast shield, blue feet, and is ornamented
with a yellow covering on its neck. Cicinnurus magnificus has two extended,
curly, blue and green sword like tail feathers. The adult female is howsoever untidy olive brown
bird with black striped complexion from downside. Female lays two creamy yellow
eggs.

Habitat & Threat:
The Magnificent Bird of
paradise is endemic, spread out amongst the hill and mid mountain forests of New Guinea and its nearby islands. They mostly
feeds on fruits and insects like most members of the Paradisaeidae family. The male is polygamous and performs a detailed courtship display.

The Cicinnurus
magnificus is estimated as Least Concern
on the International Union for
Conservation Nature Red List of
Endangered Species. It is listed
on Appendix II of Convention on International
Trade in Endangered Species.
